When building a deck, you’ll need to be sure that you choose materials that will both look good in your property and last a long time. You may want to buy cheap decking boards, but they will last a lot less time and in the end, you will be wasting your money. Low quality deck boards can rot quite easily and they usually are not as strong as good quality wood and as a result, they bend and warp out of shape, making the deck look bad. Some decking board prices may be fairly high, but these are made from generally high quality wood that has been made to last for a long time.
Cedar deck boards looks good and it is quite durable as well. Cedar decks give a really natural wood look to the deck, but the downsides are that they are quite expensive and vulnerable to stains. Teak wood is also an excellent choice for deck boards, they are very resistant to the elements and stains, and if properly protected can last for many years.
Although composite decking boards look great, they can be fairly expensive to install, and natural wood will always eventually rot. Many people also use substitute materials for decks as well, one of these is Trex deck boards. Trex boards are completely immune to any type of rotting or splintering, the wood has been treated to both look good and be extremely durable. Plastic deck boards are also popular; they are much cheaper than high quality wood, and will never rot. A couple downsides about plastic decking boards are that over time they can become discolored and brittle which may cause them to crack.
No matter what type of material your decking boards are made from, you should always build your deck at a very slight angle so any rainfall or liquid can run off the deck. If the boards tend to dip in the middle then water will just sit on your deck, and even the highest quality woods will eventually rot if they are continually soaking in water.
